On February 16, 2013, The Baton Rouge Area Sports Foundation, along with our race partner Club South Runners, hosted the 15th Annual Amedisys Mardi Gras Mambo 10k and 1 Mile Fun Run at the Belle of Baton Rouge Atrium in downtown Baton Rouge. For the second year in a row, the race set a new record for registered runners. Nearly 1,800 runners registered for the 2013 Mambo, exceeding last year’s record! Cool but sunny weather early in the morning was ideal for our 10k course and although a strong North wind greeted runners on the way home on the Mississippi River levee, strong times were turned in by the field of 1,800 runners who hailed from 22 states. The spirit of Mardi Gras was definitely in full swing as participants “mamboed” their way through the traditional Mambo race course, winding down Nicholson Drive, through LSU and atop the Mississippi River levee back to the cozy confines of the Atrium. Lake Charles resident, Alan Foolkes, won the 15th Annual Amedisys Mardi Gras Mambo 10k title with a time of 33:09. Foolkes finished third in the 2012 Mardi Gras Mambo. The overall female winner was Rachel Booth of Mandeville, LA, who crossed the finish line at 36:08.
